Grace (khar’-ece) (charis) is God’s unmerited favor and supernatural enablement and empowerment for salvation and for daily sanctification.
Thayer Lexicon defines Grace (khar’-ece) (charis)… of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting His holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues.
We are altered by grace!
Think about that?
Those who believe have been eternally altered by grace. Ephesians 2:8-9, 10
Then we grow in grace!
The growth of grace is the best evidence of the existence of grace in the heart. Things which have no life, will not grow. The Scripture is both the breeder and feeder of grace. How is the convert born, but by “the word of truth”? (James 1:18). How doth he grow, but by “the sincere milk of the Word.”? (I Peter 2:2).Thomas Watson [Emphasis Mine]
What grace isn’t!
Its not the apologist for sin!
It was the apostle Paul who wrote these words. “What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?” Romans 6:1
Paul answers his own question. “May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?” Romans 6:2
You know those people who are quick to say “Where’s Your Grace?”
It was Spurgeon who said…
B.B. Warfield said it best…
Grace is free sovereign favor to the ill-deserving.
…and that’s a beautiful thing!
