giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:12-14
He has done three marvelous wonderful things for us.
- Verse 12 says He has given us an inheritance! Titus 3:7 Ephesians 1:14. We share with other saints in light. Saint is hagios which means those who have been set apart by God to live for Him. When Paul says we are saints in light, we are the light of the world in Christ Jesus so we are to walk as that light even when times are troubled. What did we do to deserve this, nothing, it’s what God did for us. What did he do? Look at verse 13.
- Verse 13 says He has delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son. We went from darkness (Death) to light to the kingdom with His beloved Son (Life) 2 Corinthians 5:17. Doesn’t the fact that Paul mentions the power of darkness tell us that it does exist? But Light, not darkness, is the nature of believers, walk as children of light! Ephesians 5:8. The great gospel is that God has transferred the believer from the power of darkness into the kingdom of His beloved Son. Finally verse 14 He redeemed us!
- Verse 14 says He has redeemed us, even forgiven our sins. We have redemption and forgiveness of our sins! Isn’t that good news? Ephesians 1:7 The word forgiveness (aphesin) means to send off, to send away, to release, to let go. The word for sin hamartéma which gives the sense of missing the mark, losing, or falling short of a goal. Romans 3:23. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Look at Romans 3:21-26 it’s the heart of the Bible.
He saved us, so Christian walk in light, because He rescued us from this dark world. Be light for this world. Stay safe, love God, praise Jesus!
… and that’s a beautiful thing!
