The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
2 Day to day pours forth speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their utterances to the end of the world.
In them He has placed a tent for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.
6 Its rising is from one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat. Psalm 19:1-6
Every time I read Psalm 19 I can see David writing this during the early morning while the sun is rising or in the evening while its setting. But one thing is for sure, the sun always sets and rises every day. Because of that one sure fact, it gives me much peace and hope that God is in control.
My bet it was the early morning as David was coming to God in prayer. In verses 5 and 6 David compared the daily route of the sun as it rises in the east and sets in the west to a strong runner who victoriously runs a race as he speeds across his daily course.
What does the sun do? It provides heat for everything its path crosses. We can not escapes its warmth and more importantly the message it proclaims. And that message is that the sun declares God’s majestic glory!
We can not escape this one truth, that God has spoken to every one of us through His creation Psalm 19:1-2, Romans 1:20.
When you get up in the morning thank God that the heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
… and that’s a beautiful thing!
