Many Convincing Proofs

After Jesus was raised from the dead, it says He was with them for forty days.

I love the very first words in Acts 1:1-3

The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. 3 To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

He appeared to many starting with the women in John 20:14-18.

Then two more disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:13-35. We read Jesus came up to them, He said ““What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” Luke 24:17 I’m paraphrasing here, they said, you must be the only one not aware of these things! Because they were not aware of who Jesus was!

Jesus said “What things?”

Jesus on the Road to Emmaus : Free Gift From God

They replied “The things about Jesus the Nazarene” and all that had happened with the chief priests and rulers, how they delivered Him over to be crucified. Then early this morning the women found the tomb empty! They said an angel said He was alive! Luke 24:19-24

Jesus said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. Luke 24:25-27

We read, Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32 They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us? Luke 24:31-32

Jesus appeared to Simon (Peter). Luke 24:34. Soon Jesus has a little chat with Peter on the beach! But that’s for tomorrow!

Then Jesus appeared to all his Disciples except Thomas. Luke 24:36-40. Then Jesus does appear with Thomas. John 20:24-29

Jesus appears to the 11 disciples on a mountain in Galilee. Matthew 28 16-20

If that’s not enough in 1 Corinthians 15:3-9 we read from Paul….

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me (Acts 9:3-31) also. (Emphasis Mine)

You see that there were many proofs of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, not only that! If you payed close attention you saw how Jesus, Luke and Paul stressed the Word of God.

Jesus “Teaching the Scriptures,”

Luke “Explaining the scriptures,

Paul “According to the scriptures.”

Tomorrow Jesus will have breakfast on the beach with some of His disciples.

What He says to Peter will make this all come alive for you!

Feed My sheep!

Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?

…and that’s a beautiful thing!

  • Lenny, The two disciples must have seen Jesus’ nail scared hands as He passed them the bread, and then their eyes were opened!

  • Continued from my previous reply:
“When He was at the table with them, He took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, and He disappeared from their sight.” Luke 24:30-31 NIV

“Then the two told what had happened on the way and how Jesus was recognized by them when He broke the bread.” Luke 24:35 NIV
